Sony Interactive Entertainment chairman Shawn Layden has spoken to The Hollywood Reporter in regards to Sony’s recent acquisition of Spider-Man developer Insomniac Games, during which he revealed the fate of two franchises. New ratchet and clank game in the works!
He was asked what the deal means for Sunset Overdrive, a game developed by Insomniac but only resale on Xbox One.
“That was a great experience for Insomniac, and they learned a lot through that,” commented Shawn. “As far as the IP itself, we really haven’t turned over the files on that one to see what that actually means, to be honest.”
Although Microsoft published the game Insomniac own the IP. Thanks to the recent deal that means Sony now own a game published exclusively on Xbox One. However, it’s an additional comment from Shawn that will please fans of a certain furry rodent and his robotic sidekick.
What are they saying?
“We like what they’ve [Insomniac] been doing in the Spider-Man franchise, and things like Ratchet & Clank are certainly vital series in the present and future. That’s what we’re concentrating on,” he added.
Obviously we’re going to get a new Spider-Man game because it was such a huge hit. Over nine million copies were sold. The news that Ratchet & Clank are a “vital series in the present and future” suggests that we haven’t seen the last of the platform hopping duo. Still it continues to grow as a whole.
Of course, some may feel a bit disillusioned with the series at this point. After all, the poor Ratchet & Clank animated film from 2016, which the game’s remake coincided with, was fairly disappointing. As indicated by its great box office performance. Given that the film and game series are still entirely different entities. Hopefully we get a new Ratchet and Clank game soon
